The BEST Deep Conditioners for Natural Hair

Briogeo Don't Despair Repair

You came for the juice and my friend, I am here to share! As deep conditioning is my favorite step in my hair care regimen, I’m excited to share my favorite deep conditioners for natural hair. Just a heads up, I prefer to buy directly from brand websites whenever possible, but I love Amazon because of the two day shipping they offer (for Prime members) and because they mark their prices down all the time! You save over $10 on Amazon for the Briogeo mask mentioned below, as opposed to other retailer prices.

Okay boos, let’s jump right Into these deep conditioning gems!

Curl Junkie Curl Rehab| This deep conditioner right here breaks the mold. I was put on to this goodness by Elle of Quest for the Perfect Curl, a few years ago and I’ve been using it ever since. I haven’t found a product that treats my hair quite like this one does. (The only reason I’ve tried is because of it’s hefty price point; it retails at about $20) Its a heavenly mixture of herbs, botanicals, and nutrient-rich ingredients. It smells like cotton candy, and makes my curls sing. It literally melts away any dryness, tangles, or stresses areas of my hair. When I rinse, its the best feeling in the world because my hair feels amazingly soft and hydrated. Not coated. Not mushy. Moisturized. This is exactly what I need in a deep conditioner. Oddly enough, the strawberry ice cream scent, works better for my hair. I have no idea why, but I’m not questioning it.

My Modified Cherry Lola Treatment (not pictured)Have you tried it yet? It leaves my curls super defined, bouncy, and moisturized.

Shea Moisture Manuka Honey and Mafura Oil Intensive Hydration Hair Masque| The moment I heard about this line, I knew I had to try it. I had long before been using honey in my pre-poo and deep conditioning regimen, and I fell in love. I even wrote about a post about honey rinses for your hair. Shea Moisture hit the right spot with this deep conditioner. As most of their products are, it is highly scented. I actually love the fragrance; it could easily pass for a sweet smelling perfume. The consistency is thick, but well enough to actually penetrate your hair, rather than sit on top of it. This conditioner, marketed as a hydrating hair masque, packs a powerful punch.  The manuka honey, mafura oil, African rock fig, and other nutrient-rich ingredients like aloe leaf extract, avocado oil, and coconut oil work together to produce soft, lush hair. I like to apply this to my hair and allow it to steam (using the heat from my scalp) under a shower cap and scarf, or by sitting under a hooded dryer for 30-45 minutes. I swear this is a retreat in a bottle, and my curls thank me for it every time. A bonus for this product is that according to Shea Moisture, 10% of this product’s sales go to a community commerce initiative to help fight poverty. I love the idea that my purchase has the power to help.

SoftSheen- Carson Professional Hydra Steam Moisturizing System (Steam Masque)| So technically this product is marketed as a hair masque, but I use it just as I would a deep conditioner. I was put on to this masque by a BEAUTIFUL Doctor/hair blogger by the name of Andrea (@paging.dr.dre on Instagram). When she mentioned this as one of her staples, I KNEW I needed it, because let’s be honest… her hair is beautiful! Long, strong, and oh so captivating. I purchased from Amazon for $14.99 which is a great price for 14.4 ounces of product. Ya’ll. This hair treatment is HEAVEN in a jar. From the nutrient rich ingredients of aloe vera and sunflower seed oil, to it’s light consistency (which makes for easy application) I really love this product. Every time I use it on my hair and my daughter’s hair, it leaves our curls plump and moisturized, especially when I use it under a hair steamer (that I just purchased)! A word of caution, this product does have a bit of a watery consistency so take your time when applying it, so you don’t use too much.  It’s also worth mentioning that it has a light fragrance that does linger but it isn’t overwhelming at all. Trust me boos, this one is worth a try!

Softsheen Carson HydraSteam Masque

Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair!| Another product that fits into the “mask” category, this one is definitely a keeper. I didn’t initially see it’s worth. I remember purchasing this a few months ago and not being wowed. I cursed myself for spending $36 on ONE hair product (it’s now on Sale for about $22 on Amazon by the way) and told myself I wouldn’t be purchasing this again. After using it to the last drop, I was determined to find better options that were more affordable and made my hair feel AMAZING. That never happened. Aside from the options above, I really wasn’t satisfied with a lot of the products I tried. My hair started shedding more, my curls weren’t as defined, and my hair was in a bad condition. It made me wonder if my first go round was less of Briogeo’s fault and and really boiled down to my hair not being clarified properly.

I decided to rid my shelves of half of the products that I had, detox my hair, and start from scratch. When I re-incorporated this product into my regimen, it did WONDERS for my curls. With continued use, I started to see a difference in the way my curls formed and the amount of shine that they held. My hair was hydrated but they didn’t feel as mushy or coated. My strands felt… protected. I started to do a bit more research and I noticed that this mask actually contains BOMB ingredients. B vitamins for nourishing, rose hip oil for antioxidants and moisture, sweet almond oil (one of my absolute favorite oils), keratin for strengthening… and so many more incredible ingredients. It just made sense. If you’re hesitant because of the price tag like I was, I want to assure you that a little goes a long way with this product. It’s one of the best deep conditioners for natural hair. So yes boo, make that splurge.
